What is in a name?
We often get asked what does Porto Osteria mean?
Our answer is always simple “ A haven with wine and peasant food”.
In Italian “Porto” means port, harbour, or haven; an “Osteria” is a place that serves wine and simple foods, such as pasta, pizza and cicchetti. Porto Osteria is just that! We celebrate Italy, its wonderful foods and wines, and its dedication to pure ingredients found locally.
We are located in Canoe Cove Marina in North Saanich and offer Italian food, great wine, plus a simple and elegant atmosphere. From our bread to our spumoni we make everything in-house.
Here at Porto Osteria we endeavor to give you a little taste of Italy on Vancouver Island. Porto Osteria offers fresh made egg pasta, sauces, tapenade, pizza, home made desserts, and an Italian wine bar. Eat in, take out, or make at home (with over 10 different types of pasta you can order to take home) plus imported olive oils, balsamic, mixed olives and more.
Porto Osteria is growing with the times. Our guests have touted us as: “the best Italian Restaruant on the Island” and “making the best pasta in Canada”.
I don't know if we are the best but we are learning and doing our very best to provide you with traditional Italian food made from scratch, developed by our Porto Osteria kitchen team.
Keep eyes on our website as we continue to develop easy to prepare meals for home, evening food events and our weekly wine specials.
It is all in the name .
